A word on our new modus operandi:
As previously mentioned our new modus operandi will grant our Patreon supporters 30 days of early access to every newly released content.
After that grace period, every user, regardless of whether they support our work or not, will have full access to the released content.
Starting with this release, we will also start mirroring older builds to ensure that there will always be at least one build available to the general populace.
Visible changes since the last 7.1.2 Nougat build:
- Sleep mode has been fixed
- WiFi now auto-reconnects
- Root remembrance bug has been fixed
- Magisk has been pre-bundled
- Moonlight has been pre-bundled
- AOSP GMS have been swapped for OpenGapps
- Libsensor crash has been fixed (Antutu & several other Unity applications were affected)
- Internal storage (using MicroSD cards or USB devices for storing apps) has been fixed
- Android has been updated from 7.1.2 to 8.1.0
Known issues:
- read-write enabled /system partitions won’t boot (a negative side-effect of Magisk)
- The built-in microphone doesn’t work just yet
- The HDMI display connector doesn’t work just yet
I just hope that this next version will improve the volume of audio that is very low on android 7.1.2 and also be corrected the imcompatibility with facebook menssager and facebook app and among others.
The audio volume maximum has been reset from 31 back to 39… along with all the negative side-effects that come with it, like tinny sound through the speakers.
So, at least from your point of view, the issue has been “resolved”.
want to report another problem found in my gpd win with android 7.1.2, which is the low speed of battery charging of the device, I searched the internet about it, and unintentionally this is a problem with the linux kernel, in which it causes the source only supplies 0.5a of charge to the device, in which it offers a false charge or is simply delaying the battery discharging, and thus it is impossible to use the device with android charging, in case I have to leave charging off or use I’m trying to fix this problem, but I’m not sure what to do, but I’m not sure if it will work. stable, fast and compatible with more applications possible.
complementing the comment above, I have two chargers and the two are normal, and load normally and fast with device off or using on the Windows 10 system, then this is a really error of the android version of the GPD WIN I use which is the 7.1.2
I appreciate your work. However, why have you linked so many adware links to your public nougat iso? It is impossible to get direct link to iso because all these adware links are blocked in many countries around the world.
I understand the monetization part but you have chained one short link after another.
I haven’t. It’s a regular old linkbucks link.
Will you be releasing the older builds for non backers soon? I’ve been awaiting this since you announced it!
It’s been exactly 30 days since the first Oreo 8.1.0 build has been released (February only has 28 days).
As promised, they are now available for download to everyone on this blog and my Patreon page.
Keep in mind however that every newly released content will be available 30 days early to 5$+ patrons.
Hi, firstly, I appreciate your Android OS.
I’m facing a problem from this. there is rooted one. so, I can not use my interested App in this Android.
Do you have a solution for unrooting?
At the moment there is no easy way to unroot.
You could manually mess with the system.sfs file, unsquashing it and then manually removing the su-symlink from it, however, depending on your app, it might still detect the system as rooted.
Some apps even go as far as simply assuming the device is rooted based on other identifiers like ROM name or the mere existence of certain files, so there really is no surefire way I could tell you without knowing the details or having had on-hand experience with your app.
why is there, when I install the latest version Oreo no entry in boot override?
I followed the instructions right in your installation guide for eMMC installation.
I had downloaded a nougat build from android-x86.org and that worked fine despite the tonns of missing functionalities. I live-booted your Oreo build and I was impressed that almost everything worked perfectly fine and I hope that you can help me, so I can boot it from the hard drive.
Windows tends to swallow it every once in a while.
When that happens you can select the “Boot UEFI-shell” option and type “grubx64.efi” to boot into Grub2 which will restore it.
Kudos on your version android. I was shocked at how feature complete it is! Usually battery/charging and bluetooth is something I never expect to see working on these android-x86 builds, but all those and more are working flawlessly on my GPD Pocket. The only two apps I couldn’t run that i wish i could are Netflix and Hulu, any hope you might be able to get those running in the future? or is that a deeper level compatibility issue with androidX86?
Hello
forgive my English translation
and installed the iso and it goes perfectly
The only thing that tasted the pubg mobile, closes and does not work
Is there any solution?
Thank you
Hi,
Is this compatible with WIN2?
Thanks
Not yet. The biggest issue is that the goodix driver hasn’t been updated to include the GDIX1002 touchscreen digitizer ID yet.
I’ll return to the Android for Win project at a later date once the XD+ and XD device trees have been dealt with, as I personally see more of a reason to bring-up those devices than the Win 2 (for now).
Personally, the biggest reason for Android on the GPD Win was (for me) the fact that a lot of Windows-based emulators aren’t as well optimized as their Android counterparts.
This mostly showed in PS1 and NDS emulation, and gave people (myself included) a good reason to seriously consider dual-booting Android on their Win 1 units.
On the Win 2 however, the chipset is so much faster (compared to the Win 1), that whatever lack of optimization exists in the Windows-based emulators, no longer makes a difference.
This takes the biggest plus out of running Android on a Windows device, making it a low-priority target (for myself), essentially moving it on the backburner for now until the XD and XD+ bring-ups have been dealt with.
Any chance we’ll see a new oreo build based on the 6/18/2018 The Android-x86 8.1-rc1 release?
Hi Black-Seraph, about low volume audio, some way to increase it, it sounds extremely down, thnks bro, nice project about gpd win 1.
You can mess with the audio XML configuration files in the rootfs (if absolutely required)… but I’ve found that increasing the level beyond 83 introduces speaker-hiss, which is why it is leveled the way it is.
Hello!
Fine work on the build of Android, I do however ran into some problems.
I want to completely replace windows with android so I deleted it all, made a new partition etc.
It however only wants to boot when I install it in FAT32 and now I don’t know if it’s related to that BUT it only shows 1gb as usable storage even tho I use the entire eMMC.
Thanks for the build and looking forward to your respons.
Jens
Sounds like a partitioning issue of some kind.
Not much I can say about it until I actually see your partition table and of course the installation settings you used in the Android-x86 wizard.
hi, any news? hdmi support?
Both my Win 1 and Win 2 are currently broken, and I’ve been waiting on replacement parts from GPD for a good 5 months now.
Until I can actually source some parts, this project remains on ice until further notice.
